Sixteen-year-old Mislav returns to his native village and family after spending several years in the institution for mentally retarded children. His new environment is not very friendly and only his father accepts him. His mother, brother and sister are ashamed of him, and the people of the village are full of prejudices. Mislav feels the hostility that surrounds him and misses the teachers and other children from the institution. Everything changes when a sensitive girls enters his life. This moving story, written in the form of a journal where Mislav records his daily life, is sometimes sad, sometimes funny but always lively and emotional.
Born in 1961, Miro Gavran graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb and continues to live and work there as a freelancer writer. He mainly writes for theater and his plays have been translated into many languages and performed in different countries. In 1999 he received the Central European Time Award for his writing. Gavran written ten books of prose for young readers and he has become one of the authors most frequently read by teenagers and younger children.
