The nine-year-old Rafał Grzywiński loves to read big books. One day he finds the novel The Time Machine in the library and it is the book that changes his entire life. An ordinary boy who admires science fiction literature might be the hero of our times, but Rafał lives in the extremely harsh reality of the Warsaw Ghetto. This literary world becomes the key to understanding the hostile world for him. The Ghetto inhabitants are the Elloys from Well’s novel, who are helpless in their confrontation with German soldiers - Morlocks. The Time Machine symbolizes on the one hand a passage to the another world, in this case the one behind the Ghetto walls, and on the other hand the life itself which passes by and transports us to the fantastic future. The protagonist in Well’s story is a traveller the same way as Rafał, trying different ways to escape from Ghetto The same way as we all are travellers in the time.
