Puhelias Elias (‘Chatty Elias’) tells of a child’s sadness at his parents’ divorce without making a big drama out of it or giving specific directions. The boy Elias has so many things inside him to say, but one morning his words stay hidden. It feels nice just to look at the sky and think. After school, Elias is supposed to go straight home, but his legs take him down to the harbour: on the other side of the sea lives Priit, Elias’ very best friend. Fortunately, there are invisible red wires that connect people who are important to each other, and it is not even possible for people who really love each other to be split up. Also, it is 100 percent certain that kids and parents cannot become allergic to each other, even when the parents divorce. Finally, Elias finds his voice and happiness begins to win out. The book contains portrayals of friendship, love and the acceptance of change. Author Essi Kummu (b. 1977) has written three novels for adults, as well as short stories and plays.
