Not just an adorably cute picture book mouse, Lindbergh is clever, brave and diligent. Nothing is going to prevent him from crossing the Atlantic in a flying machine. Torben Kuhlmann's picture book is the backdrop for many topics: emigration to America, the dream of flying, fascination for technology, and perseverance that can’t be discouraged. Rather than telling his story in an abstract space, Kuhlman sets it in Hamburg at the beginning of the 19th century. The book's appeal is rooted in its authenticity, the realistic portrayal of the city, and the nostalgic sheen of the illustrations. With a different composition for each page -- sometimes from above, sometimes from below -- the depictions thrive on the overwhelming number of things the little mouse is confronted with. The book is rounded out with a short history of flight, thus moving it nearly into the category of non-fiction.
