Lila Prap, whose full name is Lilijana Praprotnik Zupančič (1955), the creator of well-known original picture books that have become famous all the way to Japan, several years ago published a picture book Zakaj?/Why?, in which she simultaneously wittily and instructively answers questions from the animal world. She has since repeated the successful formula with individual animal species; this time the cat. In Cat Whys she poses fourteen questions that have certainly occurred to many of us at some time and have perhaps until now remained unanswered. Why do cats hunt mice? Why do cats move? Why do cats sharpen their claws? etc. Each time, first mice try with two or three more or less witty answers but Lila Prap of course also provides the proper explanation – Mateja Plevnik provided a professional review of the book. Since the right answers can also be found between some other covers but not those of mice, I append one as a sample: Why do cats bury excrement? Their excrement smells so much that they would fall unconscious themselves if they didn't bury it! As we are accustomed with the »why« picture books of Lila Prap, it is simultaneously entertaining and instructive and, not least, also carefully produced and as such a real pleasure for small lovers of four-legged felines and a sympathetic introduction to the world of felinology.
