Het geheim van Sinterklaas

A novel portraiting the legendary figure of Sinterklaas, a man who every 6th December brings presents to the children accompanied by his helper Piet. Through the letter exchange between the 8-year-old Rik and Sinterklaas the reader is the witness of an emotive reflection about aging and believing. While Rik's grandfather, Vake, is lying sick at the hospital, Rik tries to understand Sinterklaas' old age -he is 874 year old- and get advise from him on how to make his opa feel better. "I do not want any presents this year", Rik writes on his first letter, "but rather know if you really are 874 years old". Devoided from the focus on presents, their relationship grows strong and deep, without loosing a touch of humor.
